Hurricane Hits Home

Houston is in the beachhead of Hurricane Ike, so I checked in with my mom. She and my sister are going to ride it out: 2 people and 5 pets (including the $7 dog) under the swaying pines, backed up on the surging Buffalo Bayou. Millions of years of alluvial drift left my parents’ home inches higher than the surrounding real estate, so they should be sitting like a sand castle even if the water comes to nibble at the ragged fringe of front yard. I asked for storm photos so I’ll post them when I get them. Meanwhile, here’s one to whet the appetite (Critical Condition/Bun B via the ever-illuminating Cocaine Blunts):

    This is mesmerizing.

3 days after landfall, soller home survived relatively unscathed, if somewhat doggie smelling. No power yet, tough to get ice but all in all we’re doing fine. Came to work today for a minute to check in, but forgot cameras. Will upload some pix tomorrow.
